Stem Cell Therapy & PRP

What is platelet-rich plasma therapy?

Platelets, along with blood cells and plasma, make up the components of your blood. Platelets are responsible for clotting and wound healing. They contain numerous growth and healing factors that are of value to this process.

To create platelet-rich plasma, Dr. Clark draws blood from your arm and uses a centrifuge to spin it down and concentrate the platelet count. This new platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then injected or applied into areas that need healing, such as painful joints, your scalp for hair loss, or your facial skin for rejuvenation. The platelets stimulate your body’s own internal healing processes.

Where is PRP therapy applied?

PRP therapy is incredibly versatile. It can be used to heal common joint issues, especially those that conventional medicine usually treats with surgery. These include:

  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Back pain
  • Knee pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Plantar fasciitis

PRP is also a valuable aesthetic treatment that pairs well with microneedling to boost the appearance of your complexion. Plus, PRP therapy can stimulate dormant hair follicles in your scalp to restore hair growth. Talk to Dr. Clark about how PRP therapy can help you relieve pain and achieve your aesthetic goals.

Do PRP injections require a long recovery time?

PRP injections don’t require long downtime periods. It’s a minimally invasive therapy and certainly doesn’t involve the rehabilitation of surgery.

The results of PRP therapy does take several weeks or months to work and may cause slight soreness or discomfort for a few days following treatment. You don’t have to compromise your movement any more than you already do because of your current pain.

What is stem cell therapy?

Stem cells are a particular type of cell that is unspecified, meaning they can become whatever type of cell is necessary for healing in a certain area. While many cells are specialized -- as heart cells or blood cells, for example -- stem cells are neutral and can become these cells if needed.

Stem cell therapy is a modern approach to treating a number of diagnoses that may have been considered incurable without surgical intervention in the past. Stem cell therapy can revive cells in many parts of the body. Full body rejuvenation is also possible by applying stem cell therapy paired with other therapies. Stem cell therapy can be particularly beneficial in people who have decreased growth factors in their platelets, such as those who are smokers, are older, or have diabetes.
